Staying on track with Untapped

Posted on

For the past couple months I have been contributing to an amazing global community that we lovingly refer to as “Untapped” and I am SF based of course so I really directly contribute to “UntappedSF” but really that just scratches the surface!

Really but Really

We are “Untapped Cities” which started in New York but has gone global with hubs in Paris and Singapore besides the ones around the U.S. So really, we are global.

For me, I have never had a weekly column “due” that I wasn’t in control of- meaning, that is something has to “pass through” another in order to be completed- this needs to be scheduled- I can’t, like, you know, do it all last minute “upon” the moment as I tend to do…

ART on STREETS: One of the most enjoyable things about living in the city of San Francisco is how visually dynamic it is. There is simply art everywhere, but not in a way that inundates you. The most interesting pieces are hidden away in nooks and crannies, and many people often overlook the “candy” placed in prominent locations. ART on STREETS highlights this city’s art through the lens of a “Polaroid” camera (except it’s an app on the phone).

So, I do my darndest to stay on track with Untapped…

Reflection : Experimental Open Studio

Posted on

Arranging my little studio into a mini gallery space was so much fun, a lot of work, but definitely a good time! Seeing an assortment of all of my series’ from the past few years together proved to be very valuable information. So many people came in on Saturday at a couple of points there wasn’t enough room to move in there!

Ultimately the weekend was a complete success! What people were saying about my work was so complimentary- but not the fluffy kind- actual comments about my process, my line work- years of “practice” shining through. Most appreciated by the visitors was that I do it all myself. My work is based on my own photography- my own direct environment- that I could speak on all components separately and tell a story of not my process, but the life of the piece. That they appreciated my engagement with them was even more astounding.

“Most artists we’ve seen today do not have so much to say, we haven’t really been engaged in that much conversation today…”

Wait, What? Me? I had to chuckle out loud and I shocked them with my response. “I have to be honest, this isn’t as easy for me as it might seem. I actually do have a hard time with this.” To which he responded “No, you are seamless” …

So, all in all, I have learned a lot this past weekend.

Thank You All for coming~

If you missed this and still would like to come and see my work before I take it down, please let me know!

Please Come to My Open Studio!

Open Studios is only two days away! I really couldn’t be more excited!

October 1&2

11-5 Saturday & Sunday

#246 Activspace, Mission

on TREAT @ 18th Street

gigantic building, sort of hard to miss

The door is on TREAT- since there are a lot of open studios this weekend, the door might be open- if not, there is a buzzer right to the right of the door- its ALPHABETICAL- not sure if it says ‘Faern’ or ‘Faernworks’ though….

For about two months now I have been more “in between” than ever- bouncing between home , my new studio, the yoga studio, contortion documentary coverage and wrangling all my other projects together. Having my first studio is quite exciting but also so very interesting- I am so not used to having space- that it has taken almost this entire time to just use the space. I didn’t really have any major plans for the space before I got it. The space is probably the smallest I’d be able to work in more than one medium, but I love it. The space is cute, it has a window and the door opens up onto a little patio. The first thing I did, of course, was figure out how to have plants in there… But I have to be totally honest, I am completely surprised at my reaction to having a studio! I mean, what more could I ask for, right?! Well, basically, I am working on over turning an immense valley of self doubt and dousing it with “I CAN do this!”. I have been an artist my whole life, but now I can actually do something about it!

Please come to my FIRST ever open studio!

**I plan on doing more- each month- but this is THE ONLY one that I will hang art from all my series’ until SPRING.

Everything will be specially priced (*not everything is for sale though, fyi)

I will show work from ….

Interlude:Actuate

InterUrban Reflections (including the transportation pieces with transfers)

Oil Paintng

Jewelry (including ‘Emanation’ earrings for stretched ears- 2G and bigger)

Continuing with the street art~ yep, not street art, except that this chair was there for  long time, and each tim i passed there was another ‘thing’ with it. Twice, there was a guy in a suit sitting in it- I didn’t have time to stop at that point.
