control?

at this point in my life, a few things rule the roost – the roost being my studio~ in which i live, work, have a relationship in, as well as a cat~ a pretty fat one at that. we have a lot going in this teeny studio as a group~ but, just me alone i work on a couple lifetimes of things… in the current stage of creation, the mixed media work rules~ has control of the goings on… not only do they need nice resting space to dry, *when* they dry is more a part of the equation … if they are dry, they are ready for another work session and it has to be done right then~ before i go into my other job or when i get home, the crack of dawn, 1 am- doesn’t matter- the time is theirs. they are the first thing i look at when i get here, the last thing i look at when i leave- no matter where i have been… they are in control, firmly

street art has always had a certain fascination over here, i never really participated much in it~ but did watch a lot of people do their thing. sometimes the environment really can use the addition. this particular one shown was on a construction site, when i first saw the piece it was turned “right side up”. im glad it was sideways when i went back. and not gone all together…

in the passed year a particular medium has erupted in my studio, a process. it started to be around when the amount of actual oil painting time went down and i started spending so much time on photoshop. which was a difficult process to go through in itself. i ruined three wooden palettes in that transition, my stubborn ass just wouldn’t stop mixing paint- and then run out of “time” , whatever that means- doesn’t really matter, it was transitory. anyhow, before i knew it i was making miniatures, another new thing for me- until this time, miniature art was 8 x 10 inches. so, these things are all over the apartment now, i am constantly looking for a surface to dry things on… i have a showing starting in november, so they are only going to grow in number…. i wonder where i will put them? these aren’t new sentiments, something will happen and it will work out…

on pause.
its not all that often that we get to take a pause.
and, for someone like me, that is quite plainly living two lives that have a habit of clashing~ the paused moment is very rare. even if, on the exterior, the pause seems to be there- chances are, its not happening in the internal whirlwind.
there are times, however, when the pause just happens.
and this is when i remember kumbhaka
i am eternally grateful for those moments…
the image shown, is from one of those moments, a mandatory pause … a shoot on a rooftop in san francisco, i often find myself on rooftops, i like them…

yesterday i just had to stop editing
i mean, its not like i am editing all day long, that would be nice, but its not what is happening. but every once in a while my brain just wont run photoshop. i love photoshop, its my little personal darkroom, i miss the dials and the knobs and the percentages of actual enlargers- but photoshop will do. anyhow. yesterday i had to just not edit. i don’t like when this happens, i have people waiting for images. but my body is in charge. so, i decided i would sand some metal and then i realized i could just ramble here so…. it seems that I am using too much electronical equipment and I just have to have some tactile something going on, and believe me- there are plenty of projects I can pick up at any time…
