The past few weeks have been in the least a whirlwind, but it’s not like anything HUGE is happening right now, but damn there sure are a lot of little things, good and bad, per usual. Each day i am choosing to do new things. My yoga practice is coming along – when I’m consistent especially, which is my aim. I know (some of my friends just groaned because i am pretty darn consistent) but there is still a certain disconnect between practice and going to class…

You may or may not know this, but i am in the process of moving my art studio.I have been walking my things from one studio to the other, around the corner and around the block – or something- anyhow, that’s what I’ve been doing- back and forth…It has been interesting I tell you what. Today I got some adjustable saw horses to have a better work table, I am certainly excited by this- I did get a ride though to get them, and there is already a door for me to use as a table top. I am so excited!

Last weekend I did Spring Open Studios over at the new place and it sure was a great time! Thanks to everyone for making me feel at home! So I didn’t start moving actual work stuff in till like yesterday… with just a little bit left in the month t get out of the other place… oh well!  I am already so much happier I can’t even contain it. Some unidentifiable exposure finding new comfort in old statements. Overturning criticism implanted, but in a way that has created a certain amount of gratitude. Sure, there is a sense of loss- but really it’s more like a sense of relief. It only takes a second for my mind to wander and then to fall into itself. But, I am not so allowing in that area anymore. But now, for example somehow I finally don’t have to always feel a sense of despair when I think about my mom. For so long I have had to sift through rampant emotions in order to just access any memory of her. Which I am grateful for – in a major way… but this isn’t supposed to be about that… I havn’t been able to ramble on my blog for a while. I have been busy working on conquering within myself- addressing personal concerns directly taking the time to really see.

One of the most valuable tools I have gathered from Yoga is the effect we can have on the environment around us. That, believe it or not, as people taking the time to learn “The science of getting to know the self” (from Stephanie Snyder via Sri Dharma Mittra) this is 100% possible- it may not seem this way to a lot of folks- but that is ok. All we really can do is deal with what we have been given with the facilities we have developed.

What inspires me is dissolving within this pool- and I am sure that is what is agitating me. So I return to my mat and seek within. This has all come out of a time of great separation- some with intent- some unfortunately a reactional response… that would be great to over turn, but that takes work that has to be agreed upon. A lot of times, the only person that is going  to work on things with you is yourself, which again leads me back to my yoga mat.

What is the moral to this story?

Not sure yet, I think I’ll go take a yoga class…

Recently there was a fire on the top floor of our building. A bad one. We also learned that the fire alarm didn’t work, this note was posted after the fire was put out. I think they fixed it today…

This was what I came home to that day (well, this is a quiet photo). I feel so badly for the family that lost everything.

Arranging my little studio into a mini gallery space was so much fun, a lot of work, but definitely a good time! Seeing an assortment of all of my series’ from the past few years together proved to be very valuable information. So many people came in on Saturday at a couple of points there wasn’t enough room to move in there!

Ultimately the weekend was a complete success! What people were saying about my work was so complimentary- but not the fluffy kind- actual comments about my process, my line work- years of “practice” shining through. Most appreciated by the visitors was that I do it all myself. My work is based on my own photography- my own direct environment- that I could speak on all components separately and tell a story of not my process, but the life of the piece. That they appreciated my engagement with them was even more astounding.

“Most artists we’ve seen today do not have so much to say, we haven’t really been engaged in that much conversation today…”

Wait, What? Me? I had to chuckle out loud and I shocked them with my response. “I have to be honest, this isn’t as easy for me as it might seem. I actually do have a hard time with this.” To which he responded “No, you are seamless” …

So, all in all, I have learned a lot this past weekend.

I am happy to announce that the Chicago Installment of the Billboard Art Project  is going to happen very soon!

I have always wondered what my work would look like on billboards so I think it’s super funny that it is somewhere that I can’t see them in person. I was just in Berkeley today and on the way I realized that we have the same kind of image changing billboards along the bridge exit… I wonder how hard it is to get this to happen…?

But anyhooo…

The schedule is as follows:

The schedule for the Chicago Billboard Art Project will be divided into four weeks, with a selection of artists appearing each week.  Each week will feature new artists, whose work will be shown in a rotation Monday through Friday.  On Saturday and Sunday ALL participants’ work will be shown in a weekend rotation.

I am part of WEEK ONE

along with 19 other artists.
