not so direct

its often that someone says
“you don’t know what you have until you lose it”
its often that i have said that to others, to myself-
my uncle, my grandfather … those were so DIRECT
admittedly easy and limiting, but easy to comprehend in the longrun…
but now mom. she just takes the cake.
all i can say is that i’ll never know all the things that make up that statement, there is no way…
i didn’t even know / all of this time… that hidden inspiration, that which i hid so well for so long that I didn’t even remember where it came from, couldn’t remember what it was anymore… MOM it was YOU!
i had no idea what devotion even meant

in the passed year a particular medium has erupted in my studio, a process. it started to be around when the amount of actual oil painting time went down and i started spending so much time on photoshop. which was a difficult process to go through in itself. i ruined three wooden palettes in that transition, my stubborn ass just wouldn’t stop mixing paint- and then run out of “time” , whatever that means- doesn’t really matter, it was transitory. anyhow, before i knew it i was making miniatures, another new thing for me- until this time, miniature art was 8 x 10 inches. so, these things are all over the apartment now, i am constantly looking for a surface to dry things on… i have a showing starting in november, so they are only going to grow in number…. i wonder where i will put them? these aren’t new sentiments, something will happen and it will work out…

ok, so i have been fretting for a couple days on what to write about today.
today, only special b/c its the first of the month. special b/ c i feel like using it as a turning point. but i have gone around and around about whether to say that i have a goal in mind, for what then happens if i don’t meet my own expectation? eh, whatever- so- i want to post something every day this month. today, being the first day. i could, just leave it at that- but- that’s silly-
the most influential thing in my life right now is my mixed media. first of all, just the act of doing it has a lot of therapeutic aspects to it. but on top of that, this particular project just has me completely occupied.
it has been a really long time since i have stood behind a project with such heart. i mean, i love each and every project i work on, there is a personal tie to each piece~ but this project is different…
to bind, to hide conceal, to impress, to constrict… to move on. there was a time when i thought that finding some sort of freedom was an external gathering… it is, a little, in that for some of us we have to gather information to inform our Selves that we already have “it”. we don’t need much of anything… we tie ourselves up in knots, inside and out, of all sorts. and then we work to unwind, untie, un-bind… or we can release…
this is what i had in my head when i work up this morning. and as i picked up one of the first pieces in the project to check out the drying time i had to write this down instead … i am going to do my best to catalog the progress of this progress moving towards the first showing…. posting images as i feel ready. for now, i have shared the first artist proofs- each bound asana is paired with an organic texture- and then they are worked on some more- to be explained later- i just added artist proof three- complete with the title of project!!
